CLIMB
Geographical References: Minnesota
Even the CEO was on the clock at CLIMB Theatre's annual meeting. Peg Wetli had lots to talk about -- the 300,000 children who saw a CLIMB performance in the past year, the nine states and three schools in Japan to which the troupe traveled and the new plays written for the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. When the egg timer rattled nearby, Wetli ceded her platform to demonstrations of the work that CLIMB does in schools nationwide.
Bachmann exonerated! (by herself)
You remember when Michele Bachmann said she would like a media to investigate anti-Americanism in Congress? Turns out that's just an urban legend.

Favorite building
Geographical References: Minnesota
Frank Lloyd Wright is supposed to have sniffed dismissively at Minnesota architecture and made dismissive comments about our local buildings when given tours of the city, which would be very much in character for him. But there are some terrific buildings here, including 10 by Lloyd himself. What are your favorites, by Lloyd or anybody else?
Alaska and Minnesota
Geographical References: Alaska
So the first big Senate question has been resolved: Democrat Mark Begich beats incumbent "The Internet is a series of tubes" Ted Stevens on Stevens' 85th birthday. Some of you may know that Begich is the son of Nick Begich, the last Democrat to be elected to the House of Representatives from Alaska. Further, you may know that the elder Begich disappeared in 1972, presumed lost in an aiplane crash, although his remains were never recovered (and prompting the law mandated emergency location transmitters on all U.S. civil aircraft.) And you may know that despite disappearing, Nick Begich was nonetheless re-elected posthumously to the House.
You may not know that Nick Begich was a Minnesotan. Yep. Born here to Croatian immigrants in Eveleth and a student at St. Cloud State and the University of Minnesota. Is it just me, or does there seem to be some unexpected Minnesota connection to every significant event in this election?

Mauer should have been MVP
Joe Mauer (or maybe Justin Morneau) should have been the AL MVP, according to ESPN's Rob Neyer. He's got the stats to back it up. Of course, if Mauer and Morneau played in Boston, it would have been no contest to outpoll Dustin Pedroia, the first second baseman to win the award since 1959.

This morning's NY Times front page mentions MinnPost and other sites like it around the country like VoiceofSanDiego and the St. Louis Beacon. Citing MinnPost's old-media publisher and its relatively large $1.3M annual budget, the Times said, "Most of this new breed of news sites have a whiff of scruffy insurgency, but MinnPost, based in Minneapolis, resembles the middle-age establishment."
