Pending Immigration Legislation Contains New Mandates and Increased Penalties
This week, the House will almost certainly take up an immigration bill that focuses solely on interior enforcement and border security, including massively increasing civil and criminal penalties against employers, even for paperwork violations. Our immigration laws need to be reformed, but the answer does not lie in new laws that solely burden and penalize employers.

Frivolous Obesity-Related Lawsuits Must Be Stopped
The judicial system in the United States is already overburdened. While we do have a growing problem with obesity, our nation's reaction should not be more lawsuits. Our court system is not the appropriate forum in which to handle the numerous and complex policy concerns surrounding issues such as obesity. H.R. 554, the “Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act,” will prevent frivolous obesity-related lawsuits that hold food companies liable for an individual's obesity or obesity-related health ailments.
